about
Bio: Julia Kagan is a visual artist located in Washington, DC. She was born and spent the first decade of her life in Massachusetts before moving to the DC area. Her work draws on both regions, often featuring wildlife native to the Northeast and the colorful produce found at DC's farmers markets.
Currently, Julia is a resident artist at Red Dirt Studio in Mount Rainier, Maryland. She is based in Mount Pleasant and is an active member of the Mount Pleasant Artists Collective. She also works as a studio assistant and project manager for DMV-based professional artists.
Artist Statement: I work across mediums including printmaking, collage, and painting to create artwork that allows me to exist in a state of childlike wonder. Through varied textures and vibrant colors, I amplify what I notice in my surroundings. From studying birds, flowers, and seasonal produce, I am often reminded that a better world is on its way - as long as we help to create it.
